Is performed to visualize whether the fallopian tubes could be either open, blocked or swollen. This is an x-ray examination. The hysterosalpingogram is a tubal patency test. Dye is injected into the uterus and fallopian tubes and an x-ray is taken. The dye and x-ray are used to help visualize the organs and evaluate the tubal diameter to see if it is clear enough for pregnancy to happen. This blockage, if present, can prevent the semen from traveling down the tubes to fertilize the egg.
