Prostate-specific antigen (PSA): measures the level of prostate-specific antigen, a protein produced by both normal and abnormal cells in the prostate gland. While elevated PSA can indicate prostate issues, the test cannot definitively confirm or rule out cancer. Men are encouraged to perform monthly self-testicular exams (ask us for instructions) and report any abnormalities. Starting at age 40, a yearly Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) is recommended, along with regular monitoring of skin, moles, lumps, or bumps, and reporting anything concerning to a healthcare provider.
