Cautions & Contraindications
- Not suitable for acute kidney disorders; immediate medical intervention is required in those cases
- Contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing
Nutrition
Proper dietary management is essential for protecting kidney function:
- Restrict salt intake to 1–2 grams per day to reduce edema
- Limit protein consumption to ease stress on the kidneys and minimize proteinuria. High-protein diets accelerate CKD progression by increasing intraglomerular pressure and urinary protein excretion
- Vitamin D supplementation is recommended in patients with evidence of deficiency
- Include lotus nodes in the diet for kidney support
- Avoid sour and spicy foods, which can aggravate symptoms
