Nutritional Guidance
Diet plays an important role in reducing infection and supporting healing:
- Helpful choices:
- Natural, plain yogurt with live cultures to help maintain healthy flora
- Fresh fruits and vegetables to boost nutrient intake and immune resilience
- Unsweetened cranberry juice to help prevent and manage UTIs
- Foods to avoid:
- Heat-producing foods such as mango, durian, coffee, alcohol, and energy drinks
- Spicy, pungent, or aromatic vegetables (e.g., garlic, onions, peppers, basil, rosemary, cumin, mustard, chili, wasabi)
- Foods or drinks with artificial coloring
- Processed meats (sausages, hot dogs, lunch meats), which are linked to inflammation
- General guidance: Favor light, plant-based meals and minimize heavy meat consumption to reduce strain on the body.
Lifestyle Instructions
Certain lifestyle habits can significantly enhance recovery and prevent recurrence:
- Avoid sexual activity during treatment to reduce irritation and prevent reinfection or transmission.
- Refrain from using spermicides, lubricants, or scented hygiene products. Opt for unscented, hypoallergenic alternatives.
- Wash underwear with care; candida can survive normal laundering. Soaking in bleach for 24 hours or ironing at high heat may be necessary.
- Avoid douching, scratching, or over-washing irritated areas.
- Wear loose, breathable clothing and choose cotton or silk underwear; avoid tight, synthetic fabrics.
- Patients with UTIs or cystitis should drink water frequently and urinate often to help flush pathogens from the bladder.
