What is Sonopuncture?
Dr. Skip, O.M.D. received specialized training in the South of France in sonopuncture, a technique also called Acutonics, Acuharmonics, vibrational medicine, or sound therapy. Though the names differ, the core idea mirrors acupuncture: stimulating specific points on the body to trigger its natural healing processes.
Who benefits most from sonopuncture?
- People who are curious about acupuncture but find needles uncomfortable (conventional acupuncture is still offered at our West Virginia office for those who prefer it).
- Individuals with sensitive skin that has reacted poorly to traditional needle‑based acupuncture.
- Patients whose chronic pain or medical conditions haven’t responded well to standard medical treatments.
How it works
Research shows that applying ultrasound—often delivered via tuning forks—to targeted acupuncture points for just a minute can be just as effective as traditional needle acupuncture. The ultrasound waves travel deep into tissue, promoting healing without breaking the skin. Because it’s non‑invasive, sonopuncture is safe for patients of all ages and eliminates the skin irritation commonly associated with needle acupuncture.
Please note: Sonopuncture is not currently covered by insurance and is offered exclusively to existing patients.
What can Sonopuncture be used to remedy?
Believe it or not, almost everything can be addressed with sonopuncture. Traditional Chinese medicine identifies roughly 2,000 acupuncture points across the body. Dr. Skip’s doctorate in Oriental Medicine taught him which points correspond to which ailments, and he now uses tuning forks to stimulate those specific locations instead of needles.
Sonopuncture can be applied to hundreds of conditions, but the most common complaints we treat with it include:
- Headaches
- Chronic pain
- Anxiety, depression, and stress
Dr. Skip began his career practicing conventional needle acupuncture. After training in sonopuncture at a monastery near Nice, France, he introduced the technique into his clinic. Although sonopuncture requires more effort from the practitioner, Dr. Skip chose it because it delivers comparable—or better—results while remaining completely non‑invasive. Many patients describe the treatment as one of the most soothing and healing therapies we offer.
