Merciér Therapy for Postpartum Recovery

Our pelvic pain sessions are based on Merciér Massage Therapy – a soft tissue visceral manipulative therapy technique used to help restore the health and general well-being within the female pelvis. Through Merciér Therapy we increase blood flow within the pelvis which supports pain relief and healing. This gentle and non-invasive external technique was created by Dr. Jennifer Mercier to restore healing and balance to the female pelvis.

Women who suffer from any of the following may benefit from pelvic pain therapy:

  • C-section, bladder sling or hysterectomy
  • Vaginal childbirth
  • Tubal ligation
  • Urinary tract or yeast infection
  • Endometriosis

Mercíer Therapy pelvic pain sessions are done over a period of 4-6 weeks and consist of 6 individual sessions at approximately 60-90 minutes per session. This massage technique is done externally on the outside of the abdomen and requires no vaginal work. Appropriate referral to a Urologist or OB/GYN Physician can be given for further evaluation.

A woman’s body goes through so many changes during pregnancy and the weeks after childbirth.  While you are focused on the needs of your little one, it is very important that you pay attention to your body and take care of it, as well.  Your precious child is counting on you to be at your best, so you can provide the best care for your baby!

The physical changes that come with pregnancy and childbirth combined with the stress and sleep deprivation of caring for a newborn can take a toll on your body.  It’s only natural for you to be tired. But if you are feeling like you just can’t summon the energy to get going, there may be more to it than simple fatigue. Your body could be trying to tell you something.  It’s not unusual for new mothers to experience nutritional imbalances after childbirth. Your body is recovering from a major event and now you may be breastfeeding. Are you nourishing your body with the nutrients it needs?

It is also possible that the hormonal fluctuations that you are experiencing have caused your thyroid to malfunction.  This may be contributing to your fatigue. If you have not had your thyroid checked, you may want to consider doing so.  Supplemental therapy may be very helpful if your thyroid hormone is out of balance.

Finally, the roller coaster of hormones may be causing you to feel blue, irritable, or even depressed.  This is not a condition to be taken lightly. You must tell someone right away if you are feeling any signs of post-partum depression and be evaluated for immediate care.
