My Traveling Education

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

It is my endeavor to try to catch up on lost time. My goal is to post and educate you guys on everything that I came across in my research over the last 5 years. I had the privilege of traveling with some of the most amazing people you could ever cross paths with. I was blessed to work with these folks and actually receive a whole additional education while meeting and studying with the most brilliant physicians and health care practitioners on the front-lines in alternative and holistic medicine.

My travels took me from the mountains in a monastery in the South of France to the interior of Mexico in a small, beautiful town called Monclova. I have met and studied with musicians turned healers, medical doctors that specialized in homeopathic medicine, Deepak Chopra and David Simon, as well as conventional doctors using the latest and greatest in anti-aging therapies. All of the wonderful men and women have taught me more than they realize.

Health and healing are attainable. There are many layers and many factors involved, the primary being the food and chemicals that we put into and on our bodies. Secondary (and actually somewhat primary as well) are our thoughts, feelings and emotions. Time and time again I have seen patients in my office and almost always, in addition to the actual reason for their visit, is they are also complaining about stress and anxiety.

Please take methods on a daily basis to improve the quality of your life. It’s not about the quantity. Stay positive, try to see the good in everything and every lesson that life teaches you. Don’t resist the flow. If something doesn’t feel right – make proactive choices to change it. It may be uncomfortable at times but as you shift the perspective on the issue it will change. My Mom always told me growing up – that when God closes a door… he opens a window. I have found this to be so true in my life. In fact, I think that very saying is probably the crux of the reason that I can maintain such a positive outlook amidst so much chaos.

Life Of A Cell…

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

This video was done by students at Harvard University. It just goes to show you how much is actually taking place on a cellular level.  The body is an amazing thing! This video was first shown to me when I was attending a seminar at the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, California.  My mouth dropped when I saw this for the first time.  Even being a doctor – I was still amazed at the sheer magnitude of what is happening in the body.

In the book Soul Medicine, Dr. Norman Shealy and Dr. Dawson Church write about genes in the body. Dr. Bruce Lipton discusses that humans have about 25,000 genes. Chimpanzees have about the same amount. A marine worm, Caenorhabditis elegan, have 969 cells (one half-trillionth of the number in humans) has 24,000 genes. When the human genome project began, researchers were estimating to find 120,000 genes. This was the amount that was projected it would provide to make up an organism as complex as a human. They found just 23,688 genes – about one-fifth the expected number.

Deepak Chopra also writes in one of his articles about the cells of a butterfly being the same cells of those in the human heart. Just food for thought about how complex and mysterious our bodies and cells truly are.
