As many of you know one of my great passions is anti-aging medicine. I prefer to use the term Longevity Medicine. I am not necessarily looking for anti-aging and long life if the quality isn’t there. In my opinion, life is about quality not quantity.
As far as my work goes in the field of alternative medicine, one of the biggest differences that I have seen in my patients is when we get their hormones balanced. I will post many more articles on this subject as time permits – but right now we are going to focus on women and their hormones. Natural Progesterone, known as, USP Progesterone comes from diosgenin. Diosgenin is extracted from tubers of the Wild Mexican Yam.
Progesterone has such a strong effect on the mental and physical wellbeing in women. Progesterone can have a positive effect on the following issues:
•Irregular flow
•Cramping, bloating, PMS
•Natural antidepressant
•Irritability
•Migraine headaches
•Insomnia
•Hot flashes
•Night sweats
•Vaginal dryness
•Infertility
•Incontinence
•Endometriosis
•Restores sex drive
•Normalizes blood sugar levels
•Natural diuretic
•Normalizes blood clotting
•Uses fat for energy
•Protects against breast cysts
•Thyroid imbalance
Natural progesterone is typically produced by a woman’s ovaries during the normal monthly menstrual cycle. This is, of course, if there is ovulation. Natural progesterone balances out the estrogen. Estrogen promotes cell growth, and progesterone keeps that growth from going too far or out of control.
If you don’t have enough progesterone in your body, your estrogen cannot be balanced. Unbalanced estrogen is very dangerous and unhealthy. Eventually this will cause symptoms to occur. Progesterone can balance Estrogen Dominance which is known to create a strong risk for breast and reproductive cancer.
Are your hormones out of balance?
Symptoms of hormone imbalance are caused when the primary hormones, such as progesterone and estrogen are out of whack. These imbalances can start when there are changes in the cycle as well as environmental factors (medications, diet, exercise, chemicals, etc.) Please see the website for additional information on improving diet, exercise and chemical toxicity.
During normal menses, only estrogen is produced for the first 10-12 days. Ovulation then signals that the female body needs to produce progesterone, and the hormones are in homeostatic balance.
Progesterone sustains the endometrium, so it can accept the fertilized egg. If there’s no pregnancy, then the body stops producing those hormones, and menstruation begins. So, what happens if there is no ovulation for one month? What’s the scoop with the estrogen. The estrogen doesn’t get balanced by progesterone! This can potentially be a viscous cycle that will undoubtedly lead to symptoms. If this viscous cycle continues… it will take its toll on the body. This is especially true if women take birth control pills and synthetic hormones.
A missed ovulation cycle will mean no production of progesterone! Unbalanced estrogen is toxic and one of the primary issues surrounding the imbalance. Imbalanced hormones can cause an array of symptoms and issues that can make you feel like you are going crazy.
Estrogen dominance can cause the following:
Hair loss, fibrocystic breasts, uterine fibroids, acceleration of the aging process, breast cancer, polycystic ovaries, mood swings, osteoporosis, uterine cancer, memory loss, endometrial cancer, bone loss, PMS, low sex drive, allergy symptoms, thyroid dysfunction, water retention, bloating and unexplained weight gain. If you have estrogen dominance then you probably have a deficiency in progesterone.
As females age they begin to ovulate less and less. This usually results in higher levels of estrogen and lower levels of progesterone in your bloodstreams. When such imbalances occur with the hormone levels pre-menopause and menopause symptoms can wreck havoc on you and your body!
Estrogen and progesterone need each other. Estrogen supplementation therapy must always be used in conjunction with progesterone. It is safe, however, to use progesterone alone.
Functions and effects of the two hormones together and their impact on the body can be seen below. These hormones balance each other. Typically I start with progesterone therapy on my patients, if indicated and usually the estrogen imbalance corrects itself. If not, then, if needed I will use and/or recommend bio-identical estrogen.

I am extremely picky about products and therapies that I recommend. This is why you will find such a limited selection of products. After extensive clinical use of many different brands of progesterone cream, I have come to appreciate the consistent results from ProgesterAll™ and Progesta Care. For those of you who have done any research into Bio-identical Hormone replacement therapy, you know that Dr. Lee is the father of this paradigm in medicine. He was a conventional physician who has made substantial health benefits in thousands of women’s lives.
ProgesterAll™ contains the exact amounts of the ingredients that Dr. Lee recommended for women in his groundbreaking books, including:
· What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause
· What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Perimenopause
· What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Breast Cancer
ProgesterAll™ is the only natural balancing cream that has the Lee family’s permission to have Dr. Lee’s name on it. Indeed, the Lee family is the majority owner of the company that produces ProgesterAll™. This ensures that the product will always adhere to the strict guidelines that Dr. Lee laid down for natural balancing creams.
One of the unique qualities of ProgesterAll™ that sets it apart from similar products is its liposome-mediated delivery system. The system ensures rapid absorption of the ingredients into the skin so they can be stored in the underlying fatty tissues for transmission to the bloodstream. Many patients often complain about using hormone creams because they are greasy and hard to rub in. ProgesterAll™ melts instantly into your skin and leaves no greasy residue. The same is true from Progesta Care. These creams are among some of the best quality that I have found.
ProgesterAll™ Ingredients, Net Weight - 2 fluid ounces:
Deionized Water, Capryllic/Capric Triglyceride, Simugel (Plant based thickener), Progesterone (20 mg per 1/4 teaspoon or 960 mg per 2-ounce tube), Glycerin, Phospholids, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Potassium Sorbate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Citric Acid.
As you can see, this product contains all natural based ingredients. No junk! If you can’t pronounce it…don’t put it in your mouth or on your skin. If you compare this to other similar products you will see that the others’ ingredient list is shaky at best. One specific point to take note of here is that there is an amazing liposomal delivery system (similar to the Lypo-Spheric Vitamin C) that gives you maximum absorption and health benefits. It also contains no artificial fragrance or color.
Suggested Use:
The following information is for general use and not intended to encourage self-diagnosis or self-treatment, or to replace the guidance of your healthcare professional. I highly recommend that you first have your hormone levels checked before beginning any type of hormonal replacement therapy. This can be done very easily with a saliva test. Please contact our office for assistance with this. Just because its “natural” doesn’t mean it is without consequences. We are here for you and ready to help.
Gently massage 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of cream (about the size of a garbanzo bean) into areas of thinner skin where you blush such as the neck, face, chest, breasts, inner arms or thighs, palms of the hands, or soles of the feet (unless your hands or feet are heavily callused). The optimal approach is a divided dose with a larger dose at bedtime and a smaller dose in the morning, or as directed by your healthcare provider. Rotate areas daily to avoid saturation.
A few tips about using ProgesterAll™:
Apply the cream after a warm shower or bath, not before it. When it is used on the face, let it soak in completely before applying makeup, and do not apply ProgesterAll™ on top of makeup.
Guidelines for Perimenopausal Women. If you have an average 26- to 30-day menstrual cycle, you can begin your first month of cream use between day 10 to 12 of your menstrual cycle, counting the first day of your period as day 1. Continue until a day or two before your expected period, which for most women is between 26 and 30 days. If your period starts before your chosen last day, stop using the cream and begin counting again to day 10, 11, or 12. The closer you can get to using the cream when you ovulate or just after, the more in tune with your own cycle you will be. It may take two or three cycles to find the synchrony your body desires.
Guidelines for Menopausal Women. The majority of menopausal women can simply use 1/8 teaspoon to 1/4 teaspoon of ProgesterAll™ for 24 to 26 days in a row of the calendar month. Many women find it easiest to start using the cream on the first day of the month and stop from day 24 to 26 until the next month. Other women prefer to take their hormone break for the first five to six days of the calendar month and then use the cream until the end of the month. It is best to use the cream in divided doses, in the morning and evening before bed, with a little larger dose in the evening. However, if that does not work well for you, do not be concerned, just pick one time of the day when it’s most convenient to use it and use the whole dose.
